Da Skelberry Shawl by Elizabeth Williamson

Da Skelberry Shawl

Da Skelberry Shawl by talented lace knitter, tutor and designer Elizabeth Williamson.

The shawl she has created is crescent-shaped and drapes beautifully. It is worked entirely in garter stitch lace (using the spiderling pattern which is common in Shetland) from the neck down.

Elizabeth explains the inspiration behind the design and how when she was growing up in Shetland peat was burnt for heating and cooking. Her parents’ peat banks are situated on the heather-covered hills near their home. This design was inspired and named after this area and the peerie spiders found on the peats as they raised, turned and bagged them for taking home.
