Daffodowndillies is an old-fashioned word for daffodils. Beautiful yellow daffodils I saw on our walks this spring inspired me to create this afghan square. Recently having worked with the crossed double crochet stitch, I chose it for the trumpet of the daffodil.

This pattern builds the flower so that there is no sewing parts together. The trumpet is made first, then the petals are crocheted onto it. A series of chain loops crocheted onto the back are used to begin working the background square. The petals are “loose” so that the bloom is above the fabric of the square.

Instructions are included for crossed double crochet, V-stitch, treble, and double treble crochet stitches. Other stitches used are single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch, and chain stitch.
