This hat is my way of paying homage to my favourite actor, Daniel Day-Lewis. Back in the 90’s, I saw (what was to become my favourite movie), ‘In the Name of the Father’ and was blown away by the story (it’s a true story, unbelievable, you should watch it) and the performances. Since that film I have been in awe of the talent that Daniel Day-Lewis possesses. There’s a reason the man has 3 Oscars. Thus, he was the inspiration behind this hat, The wave pattern resembles one of his tattoos, the sections that sandwich the waves contain 3 repeating bars that represent the 3 Oscars he has won and the bars of the prison in the film, ‘In the Name of the Father.’ Seriously, you need to see that movie.

Sizing:

  • Fits up to a 24’ circumference. It’s a great men’s hat, but good for all.

Yarn:

  • This hat calls for 2 colours of a Worsted weight yarn. I used Malabrigo Rios in Sandstorm (MC - 120 yards) and Frank Ochre (CC - 50 yards)

Gauge:

  • 20 sts / 4”

Needles:

  • 3.75mm and 4.5mm needles on a 16” cord and 4.50mm DPN’s, or 40” cord for Magic Loop

Addition Materials Needed:

  • 6 stitch markers, scissors, darning needle

I hope you like the pattern :)
