Before the very first glimmer of light, the Dawn Patrol takes flight to gather important information, testing wind conditions and gathering weather data for the other balloonists. Pilots will tell you this is the magic hour. There is a special silence about the world before dawn, lifting off into the crisp morning air. They’ll also tell you to bundle up; it’s cold up there.
