The Delftig Mittens are one of eleven engaging patterns from Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting by Anna Maltz – a beautiful, 160 page, full-colour, litho-printed book packed with photographs, knowledge, anecdotes and opinion to introduce you to the technique of Marlisle. It features 22 interesting yarns from dedicated small-producers while celebrating the breadth of our knitting community. Available from www.annamaltz.com and friendly yarn shops around the world. Launch date 10 February, 2018.

Worked from the cuff up in the round, both the pattern on the back and front of the Delftig Mittens offers something new and exciting to the adventurous knitter. Designed to keep out the winter weather, the palm of these mittens is thicker than the front to keep hands insulated from the thrilling chill of throwing snowballs and padded from the injustice of falling over on slippery ice.

SIZING
S (M, L)
Designed to be worn with minimal ease.

Palm circumference (between thumb and knuckles): 19.5 (21, 23)cm/7¾ (8¼, 9)”
Length (from cast-on edge to tip of mitten): 24 (25, 25)cm/9¼ (10, 10)”
Thumb length: 5.5 (6, 6.5)cm/2¼ (2½, 2¾)”

(Measurements clearly illustrated on a schematic drawing in the pattern.)

YARN
Yarn A:
Moeke, Elena Single (4ply/fingering; 100% Romanian wool; 330m/361y per 100g/3½oz)
Natural x 60g

Yarn type note: It is good to note that skeins of Moeke yarn come in different weights, rather than a standardised 50g/1¾oz or 100g/3½oz, or set meterage/yardage per skein. Moeke is a single ply yarn, meaning it can be worked at a wide range of gauges. It is on the heavier end of 4ply/fingering weight yarns and heavier in comparison to Yarn B.

Yarn B: Ovis Et Cetera, Quadruple Dutch (lace; 25% Shetland, 25% Merino, 25% alpaca, 25% Blue du Maine; 275m/300y per 50g/1¾oz)
Arnhemse Blauw x 1

Yarn type note: Quadruple Dutch is a 2ply, lace weight (on the heavy end of lace weight) that can easily be worked to a looser gauge because of how it blooms with a slight halo from the alpaca. There’s a chance, with some playing of yarn chicken, that you’ll manage to get two pairs of size S and even one pair of S and one M from a single skein.

GAUGE
