Denali Ice is an Estonian Style Lace Shawl/Scarf consisting of an edge, a border and a body. The Bottom Edge and Border are knitted together and put aside for attaching at the end. The Top Edge and Border are then knitted with the remainder of the body pattern stitches. This Shawl or Scarf can be as long as you would like it to be and can be made wider or more narrow with a few minor adjustments in stitch count. I hope you will enjoy knitting this Estonian Lace Shawl. The shawl instructions are traditional motifs/patterns and constructions. At the end of the charts there is a section explaining how the shawl is constructed, and notes on the Kitchener (grafting) stitch. It is suggested that you read the complete pattern and practice on scrap yarn any stitches that are new to you or that you have had problems with in the past. In depth instructions are given for “How to Knit a Nupp” at the very end of the pattern. These are my instructions for how I knit this Classic Estonian stitch and I hope you will find it useful. All charts and motifs are provided by Pick-A-Stitch and I have reworked them in my style: colored symbols. I hope you will enjoy them and perhaps you will enjoy knitting by the color of the symbol.

To find this pattern, go to the Pick-A-Stitch Website and do a free sign up for their newsletter. You will have access to this free pattern and to others. This website is a perfect way to design patterns for yourself or for others. The charts and written instructions are already done for you. The instructions for each chart give the pattern repeats and the number of stitches to cast on. There is no charge to get the pattern for Denali Ice, but I think you might want to give this digital resource a try.
