The Dendritic Triangle pattern is worked in-the-round from the center out and creates a single equilateral triangle with an original brioche stitch motif. The pattern was named for the way this motif resembles the dendritic branching of plant growth.

Although the sample knit was used for a wall hanging, this pattern is easily adjusted for different sizes and may be used for whatever purpose you please!

The equilateral triangle shape is very modular and can be used singly or combined to create larger pieces. However, please note that the edges of the Dendritic triangle are slightly scalloped when not attached to a frame.

Brioche is a very flexible stitch that works well with many different fiber types and weights, so please experiment to achieve a result you love!

Pattern is provided in written and chart form. Also provided are links to video demonstrations for the cast-on, the brioche decreases, and mounting the piece to a frame.

Finished Size:
An equilateral triangle with sides of 14 in/35.6 cm (adjustable)

Gauge
26 rounds and 94 stitches are approximately 4 in/10.2 cm and 14 in/35.6 cm (this is equivalent to one side of the triangle).

Gauge is very important if working to the 14 in/35.6 cm specification but may be adjusted as desired to fit a custom size.

Recommended Materials
___________________________

Yarn
Any fingering or sock weight yarn in two colors, approximately 87 yards/80 meters per color.

Sample was knit using KnitPicks Chroma Fingering Weight Yarn 396 yards/362 meters/100 g (70% Superwash Merino, 30% Nylon) in the Surf’s Up colorway for the light color and the Black colorway for the dark color.

Needles
US Size 1/2.25 mm DPNs or three 14 in/35 cm or longer circulars, or one 40 in/100 cm or longer circular for magic loop, or size needed to obtain gauge.

While a single circular needle may be used for magic loop, it is recommended that 4 DPNs or 3 circular needles be used (one for each side of the triangle) to avoid the need to rearrange stitches between needles when working the brioche pattern.

Notions

  • scissors
  • tapestry needle
  • stitch markers, including a contrast marker for the beginning of round
  • US size B1/2.25 mm crochet hook for the cast-on

Optional Notion
* An equilateral triangle frame 14 in/35.6 cm to a side. The frame may be sourced wherever available. I purchased mine from UnfetteredCo’s etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/UnfetteredCo).
