Mosaic knitting is a technique that uses two colors of yarn to create interesting designs, similar to Fair Isle, but you work with only one strand of yarn per row. This eliminates the tensioning problems associated with Fair Isle knitting. This mitten pattern includes fundamental instructions for the mosaic knitting technique. Both written and charted instructions are included for the stitch pattern.
These mittens are worked in the Mosaic knitting technique using two colors of DK weight yarn, one dark and one light. They can be solid colors or one solid and one variegated yarn. Detailed instructions on the Mosaic technique are included in the pattern. To knit the medium size use a size 4 needle and to knit the large size use a size 5 needle. Other than using a different size needle, both size mittens are worked in the same way, no other changes are needed to make the mitten circumference, larger. The optional changes are in the length of the mittens to accommodate a shorter or longer hand.
Instructions are written and charted and also include how to make the mittens into fingerless mitts.
