Diamond Cable Hat with Star Top is knitted in the round on 16” circular needles, changing to dpns for the shaping of the crown.
Starts with a ribbed edge, changes to a traveling cable pattern that creates diamonds around the side and a star on top as the crown decreases.

I started with the baby sized hats and experimented with different yarn weights to make larger hats for youth and adult sizes, without having to change the basic pattern.

This pattern comes in 2 basic sizes. Variations can be made with different yarns, needles and gauges. I have made it in 3 types of yarn.

Mayflower Cotton 8 (sock/fingering weight)
size 3 needles
28stsx38rounds=4”

Baby Bee Sweet Delight Baby (DK weight)
size 5 needles
27stsx34rounds=4”

Caron Simply Soft Solids
size 9 needles
22stsx24rounds=4”

Variations are all included in the pattern for how to make it in various sizes for newborns, babies, youths, and adults.

All sizes require less than half a skein of any of the given yarns to complete one hat.
