Introducing the Diamond in the Suds washcloth—a graceful, rhythmic knit that transforms a simple household staple into a handcrafted gem. Worked from corner to corner, the diagonal construction creates a soft, symmetrical silhouette that rests beautifully in the hand. The repetitive flow of the stitches offers a quiet moment of calm, making it a lovely project for winding down. Whether tucked into a gift basket or brightening your own kitchen, this diamond-shaped cloth brings a touch of understated charm to every soak.

While this beginner-friendly pattern suggests worsted or aran weight yarn with 4.5mm needles, it’s a versatile design that welcomes any yarn and needle pairing you have on hand. It’s a wonderfully flexible project that you can scale to any size simply by playing with the number of increases and decreases. I’ve shared the exact stitch counts for my version, but feel free to experiment with your own gauge and dimensions—precision isn’t a requirement here.

What truly sets this washcloth apart is its interesting construction. Starting from a single point, you’ll rapidly increase along the edges to blossom into a slender, elongated diamond. Once you hit the center, you’ll begin tapering back down to create a sophisticated, marquise-inspired silhouette. To keep the edges crisp and professional, the design incorporates a faux I-cord border that adds a lovely bit of structure to the piece.

The knitting itself is meditative and straightforward, relying on classic garter stitch with simple shaping techniques. This pattern is 5 pages long, but there are only 2 pages of actual knitting instructions. Look at the pattern photos to find a sample page of the pattern! It is worth noting that the pink sample is slightly different (.5’ difference and a slightly different shape) than the revised pattern. That was my test sample, and I did change the pattern a bit while making the red sample.
