The Diamond Twist Cowl works equally well with a single skein of sock-weight yarn, with two alternating colorways, or with a set of eight 20 gram mini skeins. It’s a great pattern for conversational knitting or knitting while watching a movie.

Any skein of smooth sock-weight/fingering-weight yarn will work, but if you are looking for some new yarn, please consider using a skein of yarn from my hand-dyed yarn shop, Purple Lamb Fiber Arts.

It’s appropriate for an advanced beginner and beyond. You’ll need to be able to do the following:

  • Join in the Round
  • Knit
  • Purl
  • YO - yarn over
  • K2tog - knit 2 stitches together as one

I have included links to several helpful videos for joining in the round without a gap and two different bind-offs.

There are also specific instructions for how to use the pattern for eight mini skeins.

I included gauge to give an idea, but it doesn’t really matter for this pattern. I designed the cowl to be loose around the neck rather than tight, so there’s a lot of give in either direction.

I had two excellent knitters test knit this pattern and give me their feedback, which has been incorporated. You can see their photos as well as mine.
