What happens when you ask a six year old to design a hat? You get volcanos, dinosaurs, earflaps and a VERY BIG POMPOM! All in lovely bright colours.

This hat is designed for running about in winter, building dams, climbing trees and generally enjoying the outdoors. For me, washability was the first concern, followed by colours, I’ve used an acrylic yarn, but any DK weight yarn should work.

The hat is worked in the round from the top down, with the option of starting with a pin-hole cast-on. The dinosaurs and lava are worked in stranded knitting. There are long stretches of either colour so you will need to catch the floats on the back of the work. The garter-stitch edge and ear flaps are worked sideways and are knit on to the live stitches at the bottom of the hat. Finally, the pom-pom is attached to the top.
