Dog bone sweater is adapted from our Easy-On Dog Sweater Pattern. I highly recommend that you knit the Easy-On Sweater first to customize your dog’s knitting measurements. This sweater has buttons attached to the back of the sweater and buttonholes through the dog bone shaped belt.

General info: Finally a dog sweater that fits and isn’t a struggle to get on and off. With minor adjustments, this pattern can fit dogs of all shapes and sizes. I decided on a one-piece cape and wrap around belt design which allows the sweater to slip over the dogs’ head and then simply pull the straps around the tummy and attach over the back. Either button or Velcro closures can be used so it is comfortable and flexible for your dogs’ natural movements. This design is shown in 3 sizes with directions on how to modify for larger dogs. Pattern includes choice of neck openings: crew or turtle neck. I added an optional buttonhole to attach the leash (through the sweater) for either standard collar or harness locations.

Garter stitch trim with stockinette body is easy to knit. For easy washing, superwash wool is recommended. Acrylic yarns create static when rubbed on fur so are not recommended for this project. I often use Cascade 220 or Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Worsted and hand wash. Cotton yarns are usually fine but not as warm as wool. After refining this pattern for your pet, see our other dog sweater patterns: tuxedo, bridal, tutu, Santa, etc. available on our website, www.ColettesGarden.com or Raverly.com.
