I came up with Domino while I was designing the Gabriela shawl,
while looking for different slipped stitch options.
I really liked how it looks like a collection of small domino pieces,
and it reminded me of a time when, when I was very little, I
discovered a box in the TV stand that contained domino, and I
went and told my grandfather that I had found some beautiful
figures, as if I had struck gold.
Instead of telling me off, which my grandfather almost never did
because he used to spoil me and thought that everything I did was
wonderful, or at least that is how I remember it, he showed me how
to play domino and I found it really entertaining.
However, because I was forbidden to touch the TV stand, because
it contained things that were not suitable for children, that is, the
whisky and Licor 43 that every Spanish household had in the 1980s,
he told me that it had to be our secret, and we kept it so for some
time. It was probably only for a couple of days, but I will never
forget it.
Oh, my dear grandfather Luis, he was so good to me.
