Doodling with leftover sock yarns and combining mosaic patterns is an easy and fun way to create colourful, one-of-a-kind socks. Use just two colours or four or even six, work more or less mosaic pattern repeats, all is up to you!

Mosaic knitting is one of the easiest colourwork techniques. The mosaic pattern knits up using just one of the yarns at a time. Work two rounds in one colour, then two rounds in another colour. The remaining yarn is left hanging at the beginning of the round. Knitting involves slipping the stitches in a round that should be the “other” colour.

Socks are worked from toe up with short row heels. Size refers to sock foot circumference. Socks can be worked on double pointed needles, two circular needles or on other types of needles convenient for the knitter for knitting small circumferences in the round.

The pattern uses metric and imperial systems.
The mosaic pattern is charted.

Approximate amounts depending on size:

MC (gray/light blue in the sample)
20 - 24 g / 0.7 – 0.85 oz. = 80 - 96 m / 87 - 105 yards

CC1 (white in the sample)
28 - 34 g / 1 – 1.2 oz. = 112 - 136 m / 122 - 148 yards

CC2 (orange in the sample)
15 - 18 g / 0.5 – 0.65 oz. = 60 - 72 m / 65 - 78 yards

CC3 (dark blue in the sample)
4 - 5 g / 0.15 – 0.18 oz. = 16 - 20 m / 17 - 22 yards
