The Dover Cardigan is a cardigan that is simple to knit and a joy to wear. It’s based on the cable cardigans from the last century, and its classic cables are absolutely timeless. The dropped shoulder and seamed construction make sure that the pattern is easy to adapt to every size.

There are three sizes described in the pattern and the finished bust circumferences are 105 (120) 140 cm or 41 (47) 55 in. The cardigan is meant to have around 10 to 30 cm or 4 to 12 in of positive ease. However, add or remove as much extra cables or Double Moss Stitches as needed. You can also increase or decrease as much length as you’d like, so that you can make a very long cardigan or make a cropped version. Do keep in mind that any adjustments in the pattern can change your yarn and button requirements.

For this pattern you’ll need to know (or learn) a long-tail cast-on, increasing and decreasing stitches, knitting cables, a single cast-on, an Italian bind-off, picking up stitches around the neckline, knit buttonholes in the neckline rib, sewing on buttons, the mattress stitch and chart reading.

You’ll need around 600 (600) 700 grams of the Stylecraft Life DK (100 gram = 298 meter) or around 1600 (1700) 1900 meter of any similar yarn with the same gauge (these yarn estimates are just that, estimates. You may or may not need more or less yarn). Also, you’ll need a cable needle and 4 buttons of 28 mm.

Happy knitting!
