Draco Manus Mittens
In the 12th-15th centuries, 2 dragons together represented guardians and were believed to protect sacred spaces. Consider these mittens as guardians of your sacred selves. This design is a collaboration with Republic of Yarnia. Dr. MRO, who owns Republic of Yarnia, is a literary historian who specializes in the Middle Ages. When she asked me to work with her on a medieval dragon theme I couldn’t resist. You know I love history and fantasy! Our inspiration was drawn from an image found in a 15th century text called The Dutch Book of Hours.
These mittens are knit with an optional ribbed cuff to fold into the mitten or to wear under the sleeve for extra warmth, Latvian braid cuff, and a thumb gusset. This pattern includes directions and charts for 3 sizes 7½ (8, 9) inches/19 (20, 22.5) cm circumference. To determine your size, measure around your knuckles and choose the size that gives you a small amount of positive ease.
