If you’ve got advents, random mini skeins, or scraps to use up, this is the perfect pattern for you! You shouldn’t use more than 20g of any color (unless you add more colors than recommended in the pattern), so you could easily use this for stashbusting.

The Dreary Day Shawl is a skinny center-point triangle shawl, worked side to side, designed with advent mini skeins in mind. I made my sample with the 2022 Yarnaceous Fibers Once Upon a Dino Dreary: 13 Day Murder Mystery October Yarn Countdown minis. My sample was made with 12 of the minis from this countdown; the pattern includes instructions for using 12 or 24 minis, along with notes as to how to incorporate a 13th or 25th mini.

The pattern includes instructions for 12 mini skeins or 24 mini skeins (20g each), and there are some notes as to how you might incorporate a 13th or 25th mini skein. Pattern also includes the amount of yarn used for each color, as well as schematics that show the layout of colors for either a 12 or 24 color variation.

The stitch pattern along with the increases/decrease and the color changes keep you on your toes, while still being easy to memorize. Yes, there are a lot of ends to weave in…I’m sorry! But trust me, it’s worth it.

The finished piece measures approximately 59 inches (150cm) wingspan and 12 inches (30cm) deep at center point. It’s worked flat from side to side, increasing for the first half and decreasing for the second half.
