A quick and easy, single skein project for “comfort knitting”. Fat needles, big squishy yarn, and simple stitch pattern make this an easy project for a long evening or quiet afternoon. The finished scarf is soft, lofty, and drapes beautifully. While it is not reversible, both sides have an attractive texture, and it can be worn with either side facing outward.
The pattern is for a scarf about 7 inches wide and 55 inches long. But the simple stitch pattern can be made wider or narrower by adding or subtracting multiples of 2 stitches. Similarly, if more yarn is available, the scarf can be made as long as desired by simply adding 4-row repeats of the Body pattern before working the final border.

As written, the scarf requires almost one full skein of Burly Spun (132 yards on the skein). The color shifts in the tonal colorways of Burly Spun work out into lovely stripes across the width of the scarf, at the recommended 14 stitches and 2 sts per inch. Kraemer Perfection Super Bulky is another yarn that would work beautifully as a solid colored scarf.

Gauge is not important, but it is important to use a needle large enough to create a softly draping fabric. If the needle is too small, the fabric will be thick and stiff. Designer used a US #17, and worked at approx. 2 sts per inch in the seed stitch pattern of the border. To check for approximate gauge, cast on the border stitches and knit those 4 rows. Measure gauge within any row, being careful not to count the first or last stitch of the row in the section you measure.
