Dunia Sweater is an all-over colourwork sweater worked seamlessly top down in DK weight, so it knits up relatively quickly. The set-in sleeve gives you a clean shoulder line even with the generous positive ease, and you can try the sweater on as you go and adjust the length to suit you.

It’s worked in one main colour and multiple contrast colours. Some of them are quite neutral, some are bold and unexpected. Together they create a sweater that feels alive and a little unpredictable. You could knit it in just two colours for a more minimal look, but where’s the fun in that.

The floats are short, so the knitting is relaxed and intuitive. There are portions that ask for your focus and portions where you can just settle in and enjoy the rhythm. It’s a great balance making it a satisfying knit from start to finish.

Dunia is the Arabic word for the world. I see it as colourful, diverse, and full of contrasts. Sometimes it demands your full attention and sometimes it just lets you breathe. This sweater is a bit like that.

Mini Fuwa Fuwa (85% Fine Superwash Merino, 15% Mulberry Silk; 115 m 126 yds / 20 g) as contrast colours:

• 1 skein of Miu Miu Blue as cB
• 2 skeins of Lilac as cC
• 2 skeins of Oatmeal as cD
• 1 skein of Electric Pink Candy as cE

Gauge: 20 sts & 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch and colourwork in the round, on larger needles, blocked.

Suggested needles:

• 3.75 mm (US 5) or needle size that gets the gauge; circulars, 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long and (optional) DPNs for small circumference knitting
• 2.75 mm (US 2) for ribbing; circulars, 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long and (optional) DPNs for small circumference knitting.

Notions: Stitch markers, locking markers, row counter, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle.

Techniques used: Knitting increases & decreases, stranded knitting, Backwards loop cast-on, knitting in the round, 3-needle bind-off, Tubular bind-off.

Construction notes: The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. It starts by casting on stitches for the back neckline and shaping the shoulders using lifted increases.

Stitches are then picked up along the back shoulders to create the front shoulders, working each side separately with increases to shape the front neckline.

Next, stitches for sleeves are picked up along the front shoulder edges, and the yoke is worked in one piece down to the underarm. Increases are added along the sleeves, and body during this section.

The sleeves are separated, and the body is worked in one piece down to the desired length.

The sleeves are worked separately in the round down to the cuffs.

The neckband is added by picking up stitches along the neckline and working 1x1 rib in the round to create a folded neckband.
