Raseen is an Arabic word for composed, dignified, the kind of quiet confidence you feel when you’re wearing something that fits well and looks like it took forever to make.

This is an all-over cabled sweater with a classic mock turtleneck silhouette. The cabling pattern is contemporary but intuitive and once you’ve worked a few repeats you will have it memorised, and from there it becomes a meditative, rhythmic knit.

The construction is top down and seamless with a set-in sleeve and European shoulder for a polished, tailored fit. The finishing details are designed to match the vibe.

The pattern is written for DK weight yarn, and it looks its best in light or bright colours where the texture really comes through.

Gauge: 25 sts & 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” in cable pattern in the round, blocked.

Suggested needles:

• A: 4.00 mm (US 6) or needle size that gets the gauge; circulars with sharp tips, 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long and (optional) DPNs for small circumference knitting
• B: 3.25 mm (US 3) or 3 sizes smaller than gauge needles for ribbing; circulars, 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long and (optional) DPNs for small circumference knitting
• C: 2.25 mm (US 1) circulars for rib setup rounds

Notions: Stitch markers, locking markers, row counter, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle.

Techniques used: Knitting in the round, knit increases, cables, Backwards loop cast-on, double knitting, Tubular bind-off.

Construction notes: The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. It starts by casting on stitches for the back neckline and shaping the shoulders using increases.

Stitches are then picked up along the back shoulders to create the front shoulders, working each side separately with increases to shape the front neckline.

Next, stitches for sleeves are picked up along the front shoulder edges, the fronts are connected, and the yoke is worked in one piece down to the underarm. Increases are added along the sleeves and body during this section.

The sleeves are separated, and the body is worked in one piece down to the desired length.

The sleeves are worked separately in the round, down to the cuffs.

The neckband is added by picking up stitches along the neckline and working in the round to the desired height.
