Dust Jacket Cowl (dk)
Designed to highlight the color shifts in a handspun-style yarn like Entropy DK, this double-wrap cowl is both interesting and easy-to-work and highly functional to wear.
Details to love:
- Beautiful i-cord edging worked simultaneously with mosaic fabric
- Rhythmic sections alternate to keep things interesting
- Color changes keep you coming back for more
- Ideal for using a special skein or two from yarn festivals
- An elegant and satisfying graft that lets the fabric continue virtually uninterrupted despite using a long-tail cast-on.
- Easy to modify as a scarf if you have a bit more yardage available. No special edge treatments needed, as fabric is self-finishing.
- Work entirely from charts or detailed written instructions
- Separate charts for light and dark color options
- Versatile shape can meet different needs: doubled up for great neck coverage, figure-8 to cover ears, or loose at full length for better chest coverage if things are slightly warmer.
This pattern works best with a pair of 2-ply DK-weight yarns, one solid and one with variegated plies, such as Entropy DK. Handspun yarn from variegated fiber would also work beautifully. Take care to select a solid yarn that is not matched too closely in the color shifts, or you may lose the pattern a bit.
Color A (Solid): Kelbourne Woolens Scout
100% wool, 100 g, 274 yds / 250 m; pattern uses about two-thirds of a hank. Sample colorway: 501 Plum Heather
Color B (Color shifting): Feederbrook Farm Entropy DK
100% wool, approx. 100 g, 260 yds; pattern uses about two-thirds of a hank. Sample colorway: Flash Point
Graft is illustrated in a separate photo tutorial, as well as a video tutorial.
Warm thanks to Elizabeth Ator for helping me test this pattern!

Errata: In written instructions, rows 55 and 59 should say to repeat brackets 3 times, not 4. Corrected pattern filename ends in “1.2” - July 2024
