Canadian singer/songwriter legend Gordon Lightfoot died Monday, May 1. 2023. This pattern was inspired by his song “Early Morning Rain”.

The prototype of these elegant mitts was knit in the soft and sumptuous SweetGeorgia Yarns CashSilk Lace. The pale mauve colour and the addition of the randomly placed beads evoke an image of falling raindrops at dawn. Later prototypes were knit in a fingering weight yarn, which determined the gauge for this pair; I will note the gauge and needles used if you want to try these in a lace weight yarn. Lace cuffs add a delicate accent to the mitts.
