Whip up one of these super easy grocery bags in a few hours of tv watching. The trellis mesh stitch creates a sturdy but lightweight bag which will tuck into your handbag so you need never be without room to expand.

The bag is designed for any cotton or cotton blend yarn between 5ply and 10ply - it’s up to you how delicate or chunky you want to go.

The base is worked in a 5-chain trellis stitch to make those spaces slightly smaller and Round 2 has some easy increases at the sides for a slightly flattened base.

After that, it’s plain sailing. The main body of the bag is worked in 6-chain trellis mesh in spirals with no need to mark rounds - you just carry on until you have a depth of about 11”. You then build in some nifty matching trellis mesh handles and you’re done.

Pattern update October 2019: I simplified the base a little.
