The Easy-On Mittens include a gentle wrist-opening that makes them simple to put on and comfortable to wear. I first designed this style for my son, who always had busy little fingers that made regular mittens difficult to pull on. With the wrist open, the hand slides in easily, and the closure can be buttoned to keep the mitten in place.

The closure can be worn on the top or underside of the wrist, and you can also whip stitch the cuff closed if you prefer a regular mitten. Many crocheters make these for older adults and nursing homes because the wrist opening helps caregivers place the mittens more gently and securely.

This pattern includes child and adult sizes and works well for gifting and donation projects.

Yarn Substitutions:
Red Heart Soft Essentials has been discontinued but this yarn makes a perfect substitution.

Loops & Threads Charisma. 3.5 oz / 100 g; 109 yds / 100 m. Bulky Weight yarn 5 100% Acrylic.

This may also work well:
Red Heart Hygge. 5 oz / 141 g; 132 yds / 121 m. Bulky Weight 5. 70 % Acrylic and 30% Nylon.

I’ve ordered some of this to try: Red Heart Super Easy Stripes. 7 oz / 198 g; 189 yds / 173 m. Super Bulky Yarn 6. 100% Acrylic. I will update the post once I’ve tried it.
