During the 5Day ToeUp Sock Challenge over 950 people signed up to learn how to knit a toe-up sock using this design.
This pattern is simple, easy and equips you with a thorough knowledge of how to cast on and knit a toe-up sock using the Magic Loop technique for circular knitting. It continues with setting up an Afterthought Heel, demonstrates the essential Stretchy Bind Off for cuffs and shows how to neatly finish when knitting in the round. The last section returns to the heel and finishes it off by closing the hole with Kitchener Stitch.

My multi-tiered learning mode incorporates a visual aspect of video tuition to demonstrate techniques, clearly written instructions with photos plus a goodly sprinkling of extra tips and tricks during video recordings, creating a successful outcome: a well fitted and well-constructed sock.

YouTube tutorials are available for the following techniques: Magic Loop Cast On, Afterthought Heel, Stretchy Bind Off, Jogless Finish and Kitchener Stitch.

This design offers two options for yarns and needles that result in two sock thicknesses – a thick, worsted sock using 4mm needles and suitable for indoor wear - which I recommend for beginners given the time frame, and the usual fine, fingering sock using 2.50mm needles, for everyday wear. The finer sock materials and instructions will be in (brackets). The choice is yours!
Instructions outline a custom fit.

Yarn: 100g worsted weight 100% wool (approx 240 yds) (OR 100g sock yarn). Pictured is Katalin Beth Hand-dyed Fingering Sock yarn, (75% fine Merino/25% nylon) in colour Purple Iris.

Needles: 4mm circular needles with 100cm cable; (2.5mm circular needles with 100cm cable).

Gauge: 20 sts x 28 rows using 4.00mm needles; (32 sts x 40 using 2.50mm needles) = 4”/10cm Stockinette Stitch in the round.

Notions: 5 removable markers, 30”/45cm scrap yarn in contrasting colour in the same weight as your main yarn, darning needle.
