Echo is a lightweight, oversized kerchief cowl with a triangle point! Yarn choices are everything here; go green or choose an autumnal yellow, gold, or rust for an leaf-like look, use rustic natural soft wool yarn for an elfin look without the miniature aspect, or go for something sleek and futuristic.

It has a nice amount of depth, making it a very cozy cowl and something you can pull up over your ears if needed. While a lot of this is basic comfort knitting—thick garter stitch, with its rich texture—the construction’s surprisingly fun. There’s minimal finishing, and all knitting is flat.

The multidirectional aspect of this project lends itself well to self-striping yarns, scraps, and hand-dyed skeins with long variegated patterns.

Materials

  • 540-550yds of fingering/sockweight yarn; sample shown in Premier Yarns Serenity Sock (Dark Water colorway)
  • 1 48” circular needle in US3-5/3.25-3.75mm, or size needed for gauge.
  • Tapestry needle
  • Removable stitch markers

Gauge:
Gauge is 24 sts and 42 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked.

Measurements:
As shown, this cowl measures 28”/71cm tall from triangle-point up, 12”/30cm tall where it’s shallower, and 14”/36cm across, for a circumference of about 28”/71cm.

Notes:
I generally always suggest blocking to match schematic, but in this case, you may want to block the tube part of the cowl to be narrower; I kind of miss the unblocked cowl’s more drawn-in fit.
