edinbane vest
The Edinbane Vest is worked top down, starting with a cast-on for the upper back. Short rows shape the shoulders, and the upper back is then knit flat to the armhole depth. Stitches are picked up along the right shoulder, with the neckline shaped afterwards. The left front is worked in the same way. Both fronts are then joined and knit flat. At the armhole depth, front and back are joined in the round, with additional stitches cast on at each underarm. The body, including the hem, is worked seamlessly in the round. Ribbing is added to the neckline and armholes by picking up stitches along the edges.
sizes:
(1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8)
finished garment measurements:
bust circumference: (74|84|94|104|114|124|134|144)cm
length from the back collar to hem: 46cm short version and 54cm long version.
ease and size choosing:
The vest is designed with approximately 2-4cm of positive ease at the bust. Therefore, the sizes (1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8) should fit actual bust circumferences of about (70|80|90|100|110|120|130|140) cm.
If you are between two sizes i would recommend sizing up.
gauge:
22 stitches x 40 rows = 10cm x 10cm worked in flat stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles.
yarn:
meterage: 120m - 140m per 50g.
yarn amount
For sizes 5–8, I recommend the long version. For all other sizes, choose the length that best suits your upper body proportions.
yarn amount short version:
colour 1, which is dark blue / dark brown in the samples: (155|165|180|190|205|220|230|235)g or
(410|430|460|490|530|560|590|610)m
colour 2, which is white in the samples
appr. 10-12g or 30-40m
colour 3, which is light blue / beige in the samples
(135|150|165|180|195|215|225|240)g or
(350|390|430|460|510|550|590|620)m
yarn amount long version:
colour 1, which is dark blue / dark brown in the samples: (200|215|235|250|275|290|310|325)g or
(520|5770|610|650|710|760|800|840)m
colour 2 and 3 are the same amount as the short version needs
yarn type:
If you want to produce a more summery version, which is wearable as a vest or a top, cotton is a great choice (the blue sample is knit with cotton). For a warmer version to wear more like a layering vest in cooler seasons, a woolen yarn is a great choice (the brown sample is knit with pure wool).
needles and tools:
- 3.5mm 80-100cm circular needle
- 2.5mm 40-60cm circular needle
- stitch markers
- tapestry needle
- stitch holder tube or scrap yarn
