Step gently in these socks. Like an elf in her woodland kingdom.

In these beautiful socks you can wear the forest on your feet as large leaves entwine on the surface from the cuff to the toe on a reverse stockinette stitch background.

Knit from the cuff down, the socks have a traditional construction with a heel flap and gusset, but this time the heel-flap is worked in an interesting triangle pattern created with knit and purl stitches. The triangles are repeated on a small band just after the cuff and just before the toe decreases.

Materials:

  • Yarn: 1 skein of The Wool Barn Twist Sock (80% merino, 20% nylon; 366m / 400y per 100g) or 320-366m / 350-400y of fingering weight yarn
  • Needles: 2mm / US0 dpns or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 2 stitch markers

The sample is size S and was knit using The Wool Barn Twist Sock in Potion.

Gauge:
30 sts x 48 rnds = 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” in stockinette stitch knit in the round after blocking.

Size:
Size S to fit foot circumference of 21.5cm / 8 ½”, foot length 22cm / 8 ¾” (approx. shoe size 36-37EUR / US6-7)
Size M to fit foot circumference of 22 cm / 8 ¾”, foot length 24cm / 9 ½” (approx. shoe size 38-39 / US8)

Notes:
The socks are knit cuff down. The sample was knit with dpns, but the instructions are suited for all methods of sock knitting.

Because of the large charts, row gauge is important in these socks.
If you need more length in the foot in either size, it can be adjusted in two places. These are indicated in the pattern.
