Embrace Mittens
The mittens are worked starting from the cuff, which can be worked in all over ribbing or with the cable motif in the front and the ribbing on the back.
Then you proceed working the cable pattern while increasing for the thumb gusset. When that is completed you place the thumb stitches on hold and finish working the remaining part of the hand. At this point you can decide whether you want a fingerless mitten, a convertible one, or a full mitten. Then you shape the tip of the fingers with decreases and work the thumb.
