Emperor moth
This pattern is based on the real insect species known as the emperor moth. It includes step-by-step instructions in English for creating this plush using crochet, along with photos to guide you. The design requires attention to detail and confidence in sewing pieces together. A coloring page is included to help you choose your colors.
The finished moth can be sewn onto another project or used as a brooch, hair accessory, keychain, wall decoration, and more.
Level of difficulty: Advanced (especially in a small scale).
Stitches used (US terminology): single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, chain, slip stitch, crocheting in front and back loops.
Materials needed:
• Hook
• Yarn
+ fur yarn (any weight) -- Note: If you don’t have fur yarn, you could use normal yarn
and brush it with a wire brush / cat brush to make it fluffy. For this option, I recommend
acrylic blends or wool yarn, but not cotton.
• Yarn needle
• Stitch marker
• Scissors
• Pins
• Stuffing
• Optional: Brooch pin back
Size:
Using superfine yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the moth measures 5.5 in / 14 cm from
wing to wing.
You can adjust the hook size and yarn weight to achieve your desired size. For a
smaller brooch, use lace-weight yarn and a smaller hook.
