Equally Unique is a symmetrical triangular shawl made in a sideways construction. The easy stitch pattern lends itself well to variegated yarns. Combine a unique colourway with a solid yarn and grab your Tunisian crochet hook. The shawl mainly uses the Tunisian full stitch, an easy and quick stitch, which will give your crocheting a pleasant rhythm. Design details like slip stitches and a popping edge will make sure this enjoyable project turns out spectacular. All stitches and set up are explained in a helpful video tutorial.

The pattern and the video especially are so easy to follow. There are so many ways you could vary the colours to get different looks. Easy to “just do one more row”. (Lisa, tester of Equally Unique)

Dimensions
Sample 1: (purple, yellow and white version)

Height: 50 cm/19.5 inch
Sample 2: (rainbow and black version)

Yarn and Yardage
Fingering weight yarn in 2 colours, 400-425m/437-465yd per 100 grams of each.

  • Choose a highly variegated yarn for your CC and match it with a solid yarn for your MC. Use a contrasting colour like sample 2 or go for a blend with your variegated yarn like sample 1.
  • The CC yarn is used for the slip stitch detail in the design. You can switch your MC and CC if you prefer this detail to be solid coloured.
  • Each suggested edging uses less than 10g of yarn. The row instructions given in the pattern will make sure you have enough yarn leftover.
  • Use the calculation formula in the pattern to make the most of your available yarn.

Sample 1:
MC: The Nocturne Studio Verspertine; 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon; 420m/459yd per 100g.
Yardage: 378m/412yd, 90g in colourway Nisus.
CC: Undercover Otter Squirm Sock; 80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 400m/437yd per 100g.
Yardage: 400m/437yd, 100g in colourway Genderational Wealth (Queerdo 2025).
Sample 2:
MC: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Merino Extrafine; 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon; 420m/459yd per 100g.

CC: Wolverhalen Enkeltje Sock; 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon; 425m/465yd per 100g.
Yardage: 361m/395yd, 85g in a one of a kind pride colourway.

Gauge
17 stitches and 17 rows in Tfs = 10 cm/4” measured after blocking. Tfs has a tendency to grow with blocking.
Obtaining gauge is not crucial for this design, as long as you’re happy with the drape of the fabric. If your gauge differs greatly, yarn usage and the final dimensions will be affected. Using the calculation formula (page 3) will make sure you don’t run out of yarn.
