> Europa Hat

Europa Hat
Europa is a colourful hat that uses stockinette brioche in three colours. This gives a lovely, thick fabric with a pleasing stitch pattern on both sides. The pattern is very flexible and can be made in a range of sizes with different yarn weights, ranging from fingering to bulky.
Europa works best in soft, natural yarns that are not too fuzzy. The fit has a slight slouch to it.
Europa is named after one of Jupiter’s moons.

Sizing
Europa can be made in 6 different sizes, ranging from newborn (head circumference 35cm/13.5”) to adult large (60cm/23.5”).
Yarn
Europa hat is designed to work with a variety of gauges and yarn weights, ranging from fingering to bulky. The pattern includes instructions for each yarn weight.
Needles
You will need circular needles that are 2-3 sizes smaller than what your chosen yarn calls for. For instance, if your yarn calls for 4mm/US6 needles, you can use 3.25mm/US3 needles instead. You may also wish to use DPNs in the same size to work the crown.
Gauge
The pattern can accommodate gauges between 14 x 21 and 23 x 35 in 10cm/4”. Simply knit a swatch with your chosen yarn, and check your gauge against the table provided in the pattern to see how many stitches to cast on.
(please note that not all sizes are available at the highest and lowest gauges, e.g. there are no instructions for a newborn hat at gauge 14 x 21)
Extras
You will also need some waste yarn and stitch/BOR markers. A pompom is optional.
