These socks were designed as a prize for “Variegated” category of “Sock Challenge Cup” contest.

Both socks are knitted identically, with joins performed on the “inside” or “outside” of the sock respectively. Each sock starts from provisional cast-on, is worked with increases at the cuff edge, decreases at the toe, and internal shaping for the heel; and then last row is grafted to the open loops of the cast-on. Version B has longer foot.

Due to the nature of garter stitch knitted on the bias, these socks are implemented with significant negative ease.
Testers reported they’d rather go a needle size down to obtain the gauge.

Techniques Used:

  • provisional cast-on (any)
  • picking-up stitches
  • garter stitch grafting

Note on yarn substitution:
Pick up self-striping sock yarn which produces at least 4-rounds stripes in a regular sock scale. Contrasting colors work best.

Note on sizing:
Socks are designed for a foot with roughly the same midfoot and ankle circumferences. If yours differ significantly, base your choice on the biggest.

For additional information please follow discussion thread for these socks.
