For the same reasons or feelings you may knit a prayer shawl, or use fiber arts to represent a time in human history, this meditative knit is meant to be tailored to your needs and desires as you have experienced COVID-19. This is the fabric of your life, your history.
Maybe you use colors or number of stitches to represent an aspect of COVID’s effect on you, your city, your county, or your state. Maybe you use macramé feathers, tassels, fringe, or embroidery to symbolize an element of impact.
The gray and cream sample (Cascade Yarn) has macramé feathers to signify the deaths in my rural county. The tassels on the black, pink and blue sample (Knitted Wit) represent the women leaders who made some of the best proactive decisions when COVID-19 was first breaking out. Those women are: Angela Merkel of Germany, Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand, Katrin Jakobsdottir of Iceland, Sanna Marin of Finland, Erna Solberg of Norway, and Mette Frederiksen of Denmark.

You may want to represent:
Number of cases
Number of deaths
Number of days in isolation/quarantine
Number of years you knew someone
Someone’s favorite colors

Gauge and size are not specific, pick a favorite yarn and choose a needle size that is recommended for the weight of that yarn or go one to two needle sizes bigger than recommended to get a more flexible fabric.
After the set up rows, the pattern is a two row repeat for a meditative knit. You can knit until the shawl is the size you desire.
