This very special project is a collaboration with sewhappyjane. Heather Jane and I met through a test knit she knit for me, and I was over the moon when she suggested we collaborate. Not only is her yarn absolutely gorgeous, but she is incredibly kind, supportive, and generous with her time, her heart, and her business, and I am so proud to suggest this yarn for this project. Using an existing color and a color that Heather Jane dyed for me (!!!), I’ve created the birthday cowl of my dreams.

I’ve always been fascinated by gemstones. Visiting The American Museum of Natural History in NYC was a frequent occurrence in my childhood, and I spent most of my time there in the carpeted, cave-like rooms of the Hall of Gems. I would study the Amethyst, the birthstone for February, inspecting its deep, jagged facets and variegated purples with specks of amber and pink. Every square inch had a different, distinguishable beauty, powerful and natural. For my birthday, I wanted to design a cowl that channeled that beauty and power, a fabric that is more interesting and varied the closer you look. A cozy reminder of home.

Faceted is a simple, dense and squishy cowl knit in the round, using slipped stitches and knit stitches to create a thick, textured fabric that looks much more complex to make than it is! A beginner level, quick knit. Testers already made multiples!

This pattern is suitable for all levels, and will work with a variety of yarn weights and combinations and exact gauge is not required for this project. Instructions are included for how to calculate your cast on number in your own gauge!

This pattern includes written instructions and a chart, and has been fully test knitted and professionally tech edited! Small mistakes may still have slipped by us, so if you have any trouble or spot any problems please email me as soon as possible at KaceyKnits@gmail.com and include the pattern name in the subject!
