Fade to Grey is a two-colour sweater with an asymmetrical round yoke.

The design of the yoke was inspired by the original music video for the famous song of the same title, by the British band Visage – more precisely, by the shot in which a drawing of a snake appears on Steve Strange’s naked chest.

The yoke strip is first knitted flat, and then seamed in the round. Stitches are then picked up on both sides of the strip to work the upper part of the yoke and the collar, then the rest of the body and the sleeves. Short rows are used around the strip to give the yoke its bias drape.

You will need:

410-440-510-530 meters/448-481-558-580 yards of fingering weight yarn (350-450 m/100 g) in colour A (dark grey),
1120-1290-1470-1690 meters/1225-1411-1608-1848 yards of the same yarn in colour B (light grey).

Sample shown in The Fibre Co. Cumbria fingering (90% wool, 10% mohair, 300 m/100 g), colours Greystoke (A) and Isel (B).

3.25 mm (US 3) circular needles (or size needed to obtain
the gauge) for main fabric
2.75 mm (US 2) for borders and yoke strip.
Both sizes are needed to work the main body and the sleeves in the round.

Cable needle.
Four stitch markers.
4 mm (US 7) crochet hook.
Spare cables or waste cotton yarn to hold stitches.
Waste yarn for provisional cast on.
Tapestry needle.

Sizes available: S-M-L-XL (to fit 88-98-108-118 cm/34½-38½-42½-46½ inches circumference at bust).
This garment is designed with about 10 cm/4 inches positive ease around the bust.
