♫ The Music ♫
In the iconic song When Irish Eyes are Smiling the lyrics speak of the magical:

“When your sweet lilting laughter’s
Like some fairy song
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be…”

A bit of magic blooms in these fingerless mitts!

Knit from the bottom up beginning with a tiny shell border (look at the exquisite little detail!), the cuffs are worked in a pillar stitch rib. Both the back and front of the mitt are worked in a lovely little florette pattern that lends itself so beautifully to variegated or short-repeat colour yarns. The top mitten ribbing reflects the cuff.

Construction Notes
Once the cuff is complete, stitches are increased for the thumb gusset while working the hand. Stitches for the thumb are placed on hold while the upper mitt is worked. Once the upper mitt is bound off, the thumb stitches are transferred to the needles and the thumb is finished.

This pattern recommends Lori’s Twisty Bind Off (LTBO) (instructions included) but an alternate stretchy bind off may be used. For LTBO, the knitter must be able to ‘read’ their knitting i.e., identify knit and purl stitches as they present themselves.

The pattern stitch for the hand is charted with written directions provided.

Optional Contrasting Bottom Edge
The cast on and bottom edge may be worked in a contrasting colour (as shown on the back cover). This requires 7.5yds / 7m of the contrasting colour in addition to the main colour yarn; the main colour yarn requirements can be reduced by the same amount. Switch to main colour at the Cuff section.

Yarn
175 (190, 205)yds / 160 (174, 187)m sock / fingering-weight yarn. Sample in Faerieknitz on Etsy (80% Superwash Wool, 20% nylon; 462yds / 423m per 100g) in hand-dyed Oceans and Forests colourway.
