This slouchy, fingering-weight hat is great for adventurous beginners or for more advanced knitters to have fun with color and Fair Isle style knitting.

In the gray and neon pink version the background subtly changes from charcoal to dove gray, with the bright pink contrasting nicely throughout the pattern.

In the cream version, the long color changes of the Knit Picks Chroma Fingering yarn do all the work for you.

For a crazy colorful hat you could knit the background with a bright self-striping or color changing yarn and use a neutral for the contrasting color.

The ombré version could also be done with leftover sock yarn, in big, color-block stripes. Just make sure your contrast color pops on the different backgrounds. You will only use around 30g of each background color, so there will be plenty of leftovers for more hats!
