I belong to a very active local charity knitting group named the Knit Wits. This pattern is dedicated to them.

Someone donated a large quantity of fur yarn to the group. I took it upon myself to do something with it since no one else seemed to want to. I came up with a pair of shrug patterns just for the occasion that require about 150 yards of fur yarn and 450 yards of worsted weight yarn. After all, there are only so many scarves a person can make. (The shrugs I’ve made will be donated to several nursing homes and life-care centers in the area.)

This pattern has instructions for making 2 shrugs with 3/4 length sleeves. Finished size is 52 inches from cuff to cuff and about 18 inches long, which stretches to 24 inches when worn. They are knit sideways and feature 1 by 1 rib cuffs and a striped garter lace stitch pattern across the body. Both bulky and worsted weight yarns are used knitting with 2 strands held together. On size 15 needles, this makes for a very fast knit.

These make great gifts and a wonderful donation to nursing homes and life care centers.

The pattern file is in PDF format and is 574K in size.
