Knitting pattern for a slightly oversized sweater with alternating horizontal and vertical stripes, round neck and straight cut sleeves in sizes XS | S | M (L | XL | 2XL)

Structure:
First of all, the shoulders are shaped as long tubes with increases and decreases for the shoulder parts. The front tube is worked with additional decreases and increases to shape the round neck. After the tubes have been knitted over the whole width of the body, stitches are picked up along the lower side of the tube for the front and the back part. You continue knitting for a few centimeters until front and back are joined to the round. Continue to work in stockinette stitch in rounds until you have reached your individual desired length and can finish the body with a hem in 1x1 ribbed pattern. Now stitches for the sleeves are picked up along the armholes and the sleeves are worked in stockinette stitch in rounds and shaped with a few decreases. As soon as the sleeves are long enough, they are finished with a hem in 1x1 ribbing too. In the end you are going to pick up stitches along the neckline and attach a double folded collar in 1x1 ribbing to your sweater.
The fit of the sweater is loose and slightly oversized. The sleeves are shaped with decreases, but they are still loose and create a modern and cool look. The highlight of the design are the alternating horizontal and vertical stripes on front and back part, which make an interesting contrast for a classic striped sweater design.

Level of difficulty: ambitious beginners to medium level of difficulty

Materials:

  • Main colour (e. g. “Natural”): 250 | 250 | 300 (300 | 350 | 350) g “Baby Alpaca“ (112 m/50 g) by We Are Knitters
  • Contrast colour (e. g. Blue Rey): 200 | 200 | 250 (250 | 300 | 300) g “Baby Alpaca“ (112 m/50 g) by We Are Knitters
  • 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm circular knitting needles
  • Darning needle
  • Stitch markers/ left overs

Knitting Tension:
10x10 cm = 20 sts x 26 rs in stockinette stitch in rows on 4.5 mm knitting needles (wet blocked) – due to the construction of the sweater it is very important that you are meeting the gauge (especially the row counting)! Maybe you have to go up or down (half) a needle size to get the required gauge.
