Faria is named after the surfing beach north of Ventura.

The cowl stitch pattern resembles the leaves of the wild cucumber plant, Marah macrocarpa, that grows along the California coast.

Interesting side note—the tuberous root of the wild cucumber can weigh hundreds of pounds, giving the plant another common name: manroot!
