The Farm Gate Shawl pattern is worked with a 4.50mm hook and lace-weight yarn and uses a single stitch pattern throughout to make an open, lightweight and drapey shawl that doubles as a scarf. I used a silk yarn but it would also work with other fibres.

I’ve labelled it as being an intermediate crochet project as it uses slightly unusual stitches that could be a challenge for a beginner.

This is a great wrap for summer evenings as well as being a soft and snuggly scarf for winter.

The proportions of the multiscale rectangles and the rustic-looking rungs reminds me of farm gates and inspired the name of the shawl. I used to love standing on the rungs and looking out into the distance.

This pattern includes both a version with Australian/UK terminology and one with US terminology.
