These fingerless mitts are dedicated to my late grandmother. She was a remarkably patient, selfless, and caring Farmor (meaning ‘dad’s mum’) and she looked after me and my sister a lot when we were young. This lovely yarn by Ovis et Cetera arrived at my door the day Farmor passed away, and I knew immediately that I had to design something practical and floral in her honour.

The pattern comes with 10 different sizes which you choose by simply measuring across or around your knuckles just below your fingers. If you measure 17.7 (24) cm around, choose the smallest (largest) size.

Sizes and gauge

• 10 different sizes ranging from 17.7-24 cm (6.97-9.45”) circumference

• The mitts are designed to be worn with zero ease.

• The different sizes are achieved with relatively tighter (smaller size) or looser (larger size) gauge.

• Gauge ranges from 34 to 25 sts = 10cm/4”, depending on size. The wonderful thing about woollen spun yarn is that it can be used with vastly different gauges.

• Needle size will depend on gauge and your individual tension.

• If you are completely lost regarding needles, gauge and size, I can tell you that the average knitter would likely get an average women’s size using 2.5mm/US1 1/2 needles. This is a bit of a gamble though, as everyone’s tension differs.
