Need a quick and cost effective simple hat as a gift or just for yourself?

Half-Fisherman Rib makes up body of hat, with a Vikkel (rhymes with “pickle”) braid just above the brim for extra style.

A quick trip to the store for one skein of Wool Ease Thick and Quick - or any super chunky yarn in your stash and have a finished hat in a couple of hours!

The striped Fast and Furious Hat is made with Noro Kureyon Air.

Medium adult size shown in photos.

I love to knit. I love knitting with expensive yarns. Knitting is my job, so these yarns are part of what I do. I have watched the recent trend of fur topped hats using big bulky yarns. So I challenged myself to make a thick, quick to knit hat with a yarn readily available to all, easy to knit and make it look like it belongs in a high end store. I came up with this. How to assess if it meets my criteria? Yarn: 1 skein, $5.99. Time to Knit: 3.5 hours. Pom Pom: $1.00 Does anyone want to wear it?: My daughter came home for a visit. Took the hat, I had to chase her around the kitchen to get it back. (That’s a yes) Easy to knit: Made my daughter knit one herself. She made 2/3’s of it while watching 2 hours of The Bachelor. Did the Vikkel Braid easily (she is an occasional knitter).

I finished it so she could take it home in the morning. (That’s a yes too)
