A stranded color-work slouch hat knit from the brim, up!

THE STORY
As soon as I laid my hands on the Hedgerow color palette from Yarn Vibes, I knew the delightful, wholly Irish, yarn needed to become a colorwork hat worthy of it’s heritage. I think this’ll do…

MATERIALS

  • Yarn Vibes Hedgerow Sport (single-ply sport weight; 100% Irish Yarn; 393 yds/360 m per 120g {4 - 30 g mini skeins}), 1 set: ‘Gorse’
  • US 2 (2.75 mm) 16” / 40 cm circular (for Brim)
  • US 4 (3.5 mm) 16” / 40 cm circular (for Body)
  • US 4 (3.5 mm) set of DPNs (for Crown)
  • Stitch marker
  • Row counter
  • Tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE
20½” / 52 cm circumference; 9½” / 23 cm tall
Intended to be worn with 1-2” / 2.5 - 5 cm negative ease

PROJECT GAUGE
28 sts and 30 rows = 4” over 2-color Chevron pattern knit in stockinette in the round, taken after blocking

NOTES

  • This hat is worked in the round from the Brim up beginning with the smaller needle for the Brim, changing to the larger needle for the Body of the hat.

  • Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge. The Brim needle should be 2 needle sizes smaller than the Body needle when gauge is met.

  • Written instructions are provided for the entirety of the hat; the colorwork portion of the hat is charted.

  • When the circumference of the hat becomes too small for the circular needle during the Crown Shaping, change to DPNs to finish the hat.
