Fenceflower – Mosaic Crochet Potholders
Crochet pattern – Digital download (PDF)
Language: English (US terms)
Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate
Description:
Fenceflower is a textured and floral-inspired set of round potholders made with overlay mosaic crochet in the round and post stitches. Each potholder measures approx. 7.5” (19 cm) in diameter and is made from two layers for extra durability and heat protection.
The front panel features bold, petal-like texture created through mosaic colorwork - front - and back loop stitches as well as front post stitches. The back panel is a simple, dense single crochet circle — or, for maximum texture, you can crochet two front panels and join them.
This project uses a shifting round start technique to create a seamless look, and the yarn is not cut between rounds. The pattern includes step-by-step photo instructions for every round to guide you through. I also added a link to video instructions for the first 5 rounds of the pattern.
Features:
- Overlay mosaic crochet (in the round)
- No yarn cutting between rounds
- Two-color minimum (or more)
- Optional hanging loop
- Includes photo tutorials for every round
Recommended for:
Experienced crocheters or advanced beginners, with a love for textured crochet. I recommend experience with post stitches as well as working through front - and back loop only.
It’s important to use 100% cotton yarn for proper heat resistance.
Yarn usage: approx. 250 yards (229 meters) total for 2 potholders (front and back panels).
Estimated time to complete: 5–8 hours for two complete potholders (front and back).
I’ve been making these kinds of potholders for friends and family for years. They’ve used them heavily in their kitchens and really put them to the test — including machine washing and tumble drying. They hold up well when made with 100% cotton yarn and tightly secured ends.
