Bunny, Mouse & Fox are welcoming a new friend: a playful Ferret!

This is a basic crochet Ferret toy pattern, that can be made either as a baby-friendly soft toy or a soft toy with supporting wiring enabling the toy to take various postures.

Crochet Techniques:
The pattern is done predominantly in half double crochet (hdc). However, single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) are used for shaping. Additionally, the pattern requires increases and decreases (including 3 hdc in 1 used for shaping), work in back and front loops, change to different color yarn, and basic embroidery stitches.

Materials used:
• Yarn: medium worsted in 7 different colours for a total yardage of cca. 86m (94 yd)
• Hook: 4.00 mm
• Tapestry Needle: a blunt-end needle for embroidery and assembly
• Stuffing: cotton stuffing for making soft toys
• Hardware: Wire (18 gauge or 1.00 mm diameter), wire tape, and pliers
• Optional: quilting pins to keep parts in place when assembling

Gauge & Final Size:
Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a 4.00 mm hook and half double crochet gauge (17 hdc x 11 rows), the finished size is 21 cm (8 ¼ in) tall from head to toes, excluding tail, and 7.5 cm (3 in) at its widest.

As extra features, the amount of material for each crocheted piece is indicated at the beginning of each respective section and a Yardage Table suggests a possible option for grouping parts’ yardage when preparing the yarn balls.

(This pattern is dedicated to the memory of my maternal grandfather who used to tell us heart-warming stories with animals)

Enjoy!
