Fieldwork Sweater

Fieldwork is a relaxed top-down striped sweater with a boxy drop-shoulder fit and classic stripes. Designed as an easy, everyday sweater, it’s the kind of garment you reach for again and again. The name comes from the idea of observation and work done by hand over time, a practice that is part of everyday life.

Construction:
The sweater is worked from the top down in Devon 4ply. The back shoulders are shaped first using German short rows, then the left and right fronts are picked up and worked separately before being joined to work the front. The body is joined in the round at the underarm and worked to the hem. Sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round.

The slightly cropped length layers easily, while the simple stripe pattern makes the knitting rhythmic and enjoyable. Sleeves taper gently to a wide cuff, and the edges are finished with a short section of rib followed by stockinette that rolls for a relaxed but neat finish.
