To celebrate the changing colors of autumn, I designed this oversized scarf as a show piece to wear while you stroll through the woods, or wrap up warm by the fire.

Modeled by Kay Warshavsky, who is 5’6” (168 cm) tall.

Yarn
Neighborhood Fiber Company (NFC) Studio DK Gradient pack, 100% superwash merino wool, 3-ply, 720 yards total. Or, approximately 60 grams each in 5 colors of DK weight yarn. Sample shown in NFC Shades of Vermillion.

Approximately 2 yards of embroidery floss or other strong decorative thread or yarn that can be tied tightly without breaking, for pompons.

Tools
Digital scale that will measure in grams.
Blocking wires and pins.
Tapestry needle.
Two pieces of stiff cardboard and 2 toilet roll tubes, or pompon tool.

Techniques
Making pompons; German Twisted Cast-on; Yarnover Bind Off

50% of proceeds will go to Friends of Great Kids Farm.

Neighborhood Fiber Company has long supported a number of community projects and non-profits. Continuing in this tradition, we will donate half of the net pattern sales to Friends of Great Kids Farm, a non-profit organization “created to support and promote Baltimore City Schools’ Great Kids Farm. The Farm, occupying 33-acres of abundant fields and forest just west of the city, engages students with good food from farm to fork and prepares them to lead sustainability efforts in their communities.”

By purchasing this pattern or making your own direct donation, you are helping young people connect with local food sources and learn about food production.
